IMPORTANCE OF SUPPLICATION

Supplication has been called the essence of worship for two main reasons. Firstly by supplicating to Allah, a person fulfills his obligation of calling on Allah, which is understood from the verse “And your Lord says, ‘Call on Me, I will answer you (your prayer)’" (Quran 40:60) This is worship in its purest form. Second, by invoking Allah, one realizes that only He can fullfill one’s needs. The servant who calls upon his Lord abandons hope in everything else and turns his full attention to Allah, humbling himself in front of him. This is the essence of worship. Another desired result of worship is to attain reward from Allah. Because there is such a great reward in supplication, it has been called the essence of worship. (Provisions for the Seekers)

…[D]ua is the most potent weapon of a believer. It can change fate, while no action of ours ever can. It is the essence of ibadah or worship. With it we can never fail; without it we can never succeed. In the proper scheme of things, dua should be the first and the last resort of the believer, with all his plans and actions coming in between. (Khalid Baig; Power of Duaa)

Inshallah, let us try to memorize the many beautiful supplications our beloved Prophet (saw) has taught us with respect to ever single aspect of our lives, from using the bathroom to travelling, from the moment one is born up until death. Everyone is encouraged to learn, memorize, understand and teach others these duaa’s i.e. supplications. Glory be to Allah!, Imagine, if one will memorize 2 duaa’s every month. Within a span of four years, one will have memorized nearly 100 supplications.

MEMORIZATION TIP

In order to maximize and expedite the process of obtaining the blessings from these respective supplications, you may want to print these supplications and place them on the fridge, on your children's dressers, on a mirror near the entrance of the home, etc. We may also be able to practice and revise them every-time we enter our cars and also before going to bed. Remember to always try your best as quitters never win, while winners never quit.

DUA'A AT THE APPROACH OF RAMADAAN
